We’re excited to announce that Katherine Shaughnessy, author of The New Crewel: Exquisite Designs in Contemporary Embroidery will be teaching a class at Stitch Cleveland 14 July and signing her gorgeous book afterwards.

A Cleveland native (she now lives in Texas), Katherine’s mother taught her crewel embroidery at age six. In art school, she began using a needle and thread to construct large sculptures, and to piece together her collage paintings. Later, she earned a graduate degree in Fiber Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a few years ago, after a long search for cool, modern crewel kits, Katherine launched Wool & Hoop.

We stock Wool & Hoop kits at Stitch Cleveland and Katherine will be bringing more with her as well. Need ideas for using crewel in a modern, fun way? Check out this page on her website!

Class spaces are limited, so sign up soon. The class will run from 10:00-11:00 a.m. and the book signing from noon-2:00 p.m., so there will be time to hang out and keep stitching if you like! Cost is $45, and it includes a class kit designed by Katherine with all the materials you’ll need. To register with a credit card or eCheck, click the link below, or send in a physical check (address). First come, first serve for class spaces.
